Welcome

My name is Steph and I am not good at introductions. In short, I was told to create this blog by my high school journalism teacher and keep it for roughly 12 weeks on a certain topic. The concept itself was not difficult for me to understand; I have experience writing for online news sources. What was difficult, though, was picking a topic. In the past, I've written about music. So when I went to pick my topic for this assignment, I had to decide whether I was going to stick with what I was good at or try something new.

I decided to stick with what I know. To make it even easier, I decided to write about a topic I already keep up to date with: Fall Out Boy. Though the band is not currently active, all the members are doing other things. So for those of you who aren't into pop punk, you may actually like what they're up to.

We’ll start with the basics. Who makes up Fall Out Boy?
Patrick Stump, lead vocals, guitar.
Joe Trohman, lead guitar.
Pete Wentz, bass.
Andy Hurley, drums.

Fall Out Boy has released seven CDs (excluding rereleases) and four EPs since they formed in the early millennium. They have five full length LPs, a live cd/dvd set and a greatest hits album. They’ve written/covered songs for many movie soundtracks, including The Nightmare Before Christmas. They’ve also collaborated with many artists, such as Timbaland and John Mayer.

They gained most of their fame from their 2005 single “Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down,” from their second album From Under the Cork Tree. The album has since achieved a double platinum status. Infinity on High, the album that followed in 2007, was certified platinum as well. Folie a Deux was released in 2008 and was not received as well in the mainstream.

Fall Out Boy has been nominated for and won many awards from the MTV Video Music Awards. They have won best rock group three times, in 2006, 2007 and 2008. They’ve also received awards from Kerrang! (international) and the Teen Choice Awards.

Most recently, they we’re recruited as openers from blink-182’s summer 2009 reunion tour. They announced their “break” around the same time, saying that the tour would be Fall Out Boy’s last for a while. Since then, they have released Believer’s Never Die: The Hits with the single “Alpha Dog.” They insist that they will be back, though.

While Fall Out Boy remains inactive, I’ll keep you up to date with what the guys are up to via this blog. For now, here's the video for Alpha Dog. Enjoy!
